For quick and complete battery charging from the engine / easy installation
The alternator charger is characterized by its ease of assembly as it simply replaces the existing distributor. It is the ideal solution to quickly and completely recharge service batteries from the alternator and one of the first options to consider to improve its autonomy.
It represents an interesting alternative to the installation of a generator set since alternators represent an important source of energy on board (most current engines have alternators with a power greater than 100A). By optimizing the recharging from the engine (adjustment of the charge cycle), the batteries can therefore be recharged quickly.
Function | Fast charging (2 to 5 times faster) and complete charging of service batteries from the alternator and charge distributor for the engine battery |
---|---|
Connection | Without alternator disassembly (connection similar to that of a distributor) |
Compatible alternators | All types of 12V alternators up to a power of 130 A |
Compatibility | Compatible with all types of batteries (including 9-cycle lithium batteries available) and alternators |
Charging cycle applied | Three-phase IUoU charging cycle with temperature compensation |
Charging current | 130A maximum (depends on alternator power) |
Number of outputs | One service battery output (three-phase cycle) One motor battery output (voltage regulation)) The number of service or motor outputs can be increased by using a cascaded R distributor |
Control and configuration | Information available by LED: voltage control, type of batteries configured, alarms. |
Temperature sensor | Two probes included (one for the service park to adjust the charging voltage and one to protect the alternator). |
Remote control panel | The optional control panel allows to control all the parameters of the charging cycle and to stop or restart the boost function (delivered with 10 m of cable) |
Weight | 2,5 Kg |
Dimensions | 285*180*70 mm |
The alternator charger range extends to 12 V from 80 A to 400 A and 24 V from 80 A to 200 A. You will find the entire range in the product sheet available under this link.
The alternator charger is connected instead of the charge distributor. When starting, the alternator charger behaves like a distributor with specific control of the engine battery's behaviour. When the alternator has resumed its initial charge (after one or two minutes on a system in good condition), the alternator charger maintains the engine battery in voltage and "deceives" the alternator by simulating a discharged battery so that it provides a maximum of current which is then amplified in voltage to recharge the service batteries with a suitable charging cycle. Two temperature sensors (included in the package) allow to control the alternator temperature and the temperature of the service batteries, generating a stop of the boost function if one of the temperatures exceeds 80°C but also by applying a voltage compensation according to the temperature (0.03 V/°C) |

The charging performance obtained from the alternator becomes equivalent to that of the most sophisticated shore chargers (three-phase charging cycle (boost, absorption, floating) by software control with temperature compensation of the battery fleet). This product is also called a booster because it allows a battery park to be recharged 3 to 5 times faster than with a system based on a diode charge distributor (twice as fast as a system where the battery is connected directly to the alternator).
As an option, it is possible to use a remote control panel that provides all the information corresponding to the charging cycle (voltage, temperature, cycle status) but also allows the boost function to be activated or deactivated. This control panel is available under this link
The results obtained with the alternator charger are equivalent to those of the alternator regulator, but this product differs in its ease of assembly (no need to disassemble the alternator). It should also be noted that some recent alternators are incompatible with the alternator regulator.
