IRIDIUM

Iridium is a system of 66 satellites with worldwide coverage, launched in 1998 by Motorola. This system allows you to send and receive data (mel) from anywhere in the world, as well as make conventional voice calls.

The data rate is limited to 2.4kb/second, but thanks to the free skyfile compression software for mel and the "internet direct iridium" compression software for internet access, which are available free with communication packages, the data rate can be multiplied by five.

It takes about two minutes to download a 35kb grib weather file in iridium via skyfile.

You can find an installation manual for setting up your Iridium account with Skyfile at the following link: Mel Skyfile configuration
