Iridium is a system consisting of 66 satellites with global coverage that was launched in 1998 by motorola. This system allows both to receive and send data (mel) from anywhere on the planet and to make traditional voice communications.
The data rate is limited to 2.4kb/second but thanks to the skyfile compression software (free software) for mel and the "internet direct iridium" compression software for internet access which are available free with the communication packages, the data rate can be multiplied by five.
It takes about two minutes to download a 35kb grib weather file in iridium via skyfile.
We offer you an installation manual for configuring your Iridium account with Skyfile at the following link: Configuration Mel Skyfile
